7 Denver charities that change lives with your donations.

Do you want to give away your used, in good condition items away to someone in need, but don’t know where to start?  As part of my service, I offer to take away a carload full of your treasures every time I leave your home. I do this for you and me. One of the things I love most about what I do is that I get to give your items to support one of these wonderful charities and change someone elses life!

RANT ALERT!

I am incredibly passionate about where your items go! I don’t just take them to the nearest drop off-center. I don’t just give them to certain big-name brands charities because it’s easy. I take my time to sort through what you have (generally in the garage of my building.) I check what charities need what, and then I take them to a place that I know GIVES them to someone who needs it. I do not want someone to pay for the items I give away unless I know where the money is going.

Here are seven Charities that change life’s with your donations.

The Family Tree

They have a Treasure Trunk Community Thrift Store that generates income to support their programs, which focus on domestic violence survivors and people experiencing homelessness. They help empower individuals and families to discover their own strengths to create lasting, positive change. Donated goods directly support individuals and families in Family Tree programs preparing for a new start by providing essential items, including clothing, household items, toys, tools, and much more.

100% of your dollars spent at Treasure Trunk goes directly to help fund Family Tree’s life-changing services.

Community Works

Community Works empowers the unemployed and those with barriers to employment to become self-supporting through job preparation and placement. Their vision is to see all job seekers in your community can. Be employed.

They accept clothing, toiletries, work attire, jeans, boots, hand warmers, coats, scrubs, undergarments, socks, tools, and more.

100% of your donations go back to their programs for their participants. They do not sell their donations; they give them to the people in their programs.

Denver Rescue Mission

Denver Rescue Mission has been around for 125 years, and they have multiple locations throughout your community. They help restore the lives of people experiencing homelessness and addiction through emergency services, rehabilitation, transitional programs, and community outreach. Your donations help provide meals for people in need, Clothing for men and families in our long-term programs, household items for people struggling to make ends meet, vehicles for program graduates, and more.

80% of every dollar we receive goes directly to serving the needs of the homeless and needy in the Denver metro area.

The Action Center

The Action Center provides an immediate and compassionate response to those in our community experiencing hardship. They offer the people of Jefferson County free food, clothing, and personal items in an environment of respect and kindness. They also work with people to address their longer-term needs by connecting them to the resources, services, and supports that can help them move towards greater stability and hope. They also help people in many other ways, be sure to check out their website.

$.89 of every donated dollar serves those facing hardship or experiencing homelessness.

 Lutheran Family Services

I work with Lutheran Family Services, frequently providing support for new families that have recently fled to Denver. Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service help resettle refugees.

LFSRM Refugee & Asylee Programs help people who have been uprooted by persecution and violence work towards self-sufficiency through resettlement services that help with housing, employment, English language, and cultural orientation. Your donations help refugees to become self-sufficient and integrate into their new communities.

 Red Apple Recycling

If your clothes are not in good enough condition to be resold, I take them to Red Apple Recycling. They are a Denver-based non-profit which supports Colorado education by helping fund wellness and sustainability programs at local schools. They take Clothing and other small household items, and they’ll recycle them by selling them to a local textile company that has been in the Denver area for 100 years.

 Nike

Are your sneakers in such bad condition they need to be trashed?

Take them to any Nike Store. They take all athletics sneakers and give them a new life through their Nike Grind program. They create new footwear, apparel, and sports surface from recycled athletic wear!

If you cant donate your items, then I have another blog post on The best places to recycle in Denever. It’s important to remember that all we can do is out best and if we do, thats all that matters!
